Hafnium is a critical semiconductor material used in Atomic Layer Deposition (ALD) of high-k dielectric gate insulators at advanced CMOS nodes (FinFET, Gate-All-Around). Chinese export controls on hafnium from April 2024 have intensified Western foundry efforts to diversify supply. Hafnium oxide produced from this feedstock targets the semiconductor materials chain as a non-Chinese source for sputtering targets and ALD-grade powders.
